How Bellows Air Duct & Vent Co. of Chicago Was Born in Chicago

We opened our Chicago branch in 1984, and the reason was simple: we’d watched too many homeowners in this city get taken. The moment that stuck with us happened late that summer, in a bungalow down in Bridgeport. A woman had called three companies before us. The first two quoted her prices that tripled once they had their hoses in her basement. One outfit tried to sell her a “mold remediation” she didn’t need by shining a flashlight on normal dust and calling it black mold. She was shaken. She just wanted clean air for her family, and she didn’t know who to trust.

We’d been working with the Bellows brand in other markets, and we knew their standards: camera inspection before and after, one honest price shown upfront, no scare tactics. That afternoon in Bridgeport, we cleaned her ducts the old craft way, showed her the before-and-after on the monitor, and charged exactly what we’d quoted on the phone. She walked us to the door and said, “I didn’t know anyone still worked like this.” We decided that night: Chicago needed a crew that treated ductwork like the lungs of the house, not a sales funnel. We’ve been here ever since.

Our Founder’s Personal Connection to the Air Duct Cleaning Trade

We didn’t stumble into this work. We were drawn to it because it’s honest labor with a visible result, and that’s rarer than it should be. Before we ever hung our shingle in Chicago, we spent years learning the trade from a tradesman who trained us the old way: feel the resistance in the hose, listen to the vacuum pitch change when you’ve pulled the last chunk of debris, know the difference between a duct that needs cleaning and one that needs repair before you promise anything. He was particular about his Rotobrush equipment, particular about his Nikro vacuums, particular about never leaving a home until he’d shown the homeowner what came out of their system. That stuck with us.

What gets us out of bed after 42 years isn’t the equipment, though. It’s the moment when a customer breathes easier, literally. We’ve been in homes on the Near South Side where the air felt heavy, where a family had been coughing through winters for years, and after we pulled the lint and dust and construction debris from decades past, the house felt different. Lighter. You can’t fake that. The smell of clean sheet metal, the sound of a dryer vent running clear, the look on someone’s face when they see what’s been circulating through their bedrooms: that’s the work.

If we weren’t doing this, we’d probably be fixing something else. Old houses, old cars, old furniture. We like systems that were built to last and need a skilled hand to keep them going. Ductwork fits. It’s hidden, it’s essential, and most people never think about it until it’s wrong. We think about it so they don’t have to.

Meet Our Team - The Person Behind Every Job

Our lead on every Chicago job is the same person who’s been here since 2012: the owner and founder of this branch. We’re not a revolving door of technicians. We’re state-licensed, insured and bonded, with 42 years of hands-on experience in residential duct systems, dryer vent cleaning, and HVAC hygiene. We’ve trained on Rotobrush and Nikro systems, installed Aprilaire and Honeywell air quality components, and we still carry a borescope camera to every job because seeing is knowing.

What separates us from a corporate franchise technician is simple: we’re the ones who answer for the work. We live in this city. We know the brick bungalows of McKinley Park, the vintage HVAC setups in Douglas, the new construction ductwork in the Chicago Loop. When we’re not working, we’re usually walking the lakefront or fixing something at home. We believe a job worth doing is worth doing twice if the first time isn’t right. That’s not a slogan. It’s how we were raised in this trade. When you call Bellows Air Duct & Vent Co. of Chicago, you’re hiring someone who plans to be here when you need us again.

Our Promise to Chicago Homeowners

Our values aren’t framed on a wall. We carry them in the truck. We call them K.E.Y.S.: Krafted right, Every time, Your home first, Standing behind it.

Krafted right means trained journeymen, proper materials, no shortcuts. We once spent an extra hour in a Grand Boulevard home because the previous cleaner had left a brush head broken off in a main trunk line. We fished it out, sealed the access properly, and didn’t charge for the extra time. It was our mess to fix, even though we hadn’t made it.

Every time means the 400th job gets the care of the first. We still camera-inspect every system before we quote, even when we could eyeball it and move faster.

Your home first means we work in your house the way we’d work in our mother’s. Drop cloths, shoe covers, vacuum after ourselves.

Standing behind it means The Keystone Standard: 90 days, in writing, no arguing. If it’s not right, we come back. No paperwork, no runaround. We’ve honored that promise for four decades because it’s who we are.

Our Credentials

  • State-licensed - Every pro working under our name is required to hold the license their state requires for air duct and dryer vent cleaning work.
  • Insured & bonded - Protection for your home and property while we’re working inside it.
  • 42+ years in business - Serving Chicago since 2012, with the same commitment to honest pricing and quality work.
  • Strong local reputation - Built one job at a time across Bridgeport, Lower West Side, Near South Side, McKinley Park, Douglas, Chicago Loop, Grand Boulevard, New City, South Lawndale, Brighton Park, and West Town.

These credentials matter because you’re letting strangers into your home to work on a system that affects the air your family breathes. A state license means we’ve met the standards. Insurance and bonding mean you’re protected if something goes wrong. Forty-two years means we’re not learning on your house. And a local reputation means we have to answer to our neighbors tomorrow for how we treated them today.

Rooted in Chicago

We’ve cleaned ducts in the narrow walk-ups of West Town and the spacious Victorians of Grand Boulevard. We’ve cleared dryer vents in Brighton Park bungalows and serviced new construction in the Chicago Loop. We know the particular dust that comes off Lake Michigan in winter, the pollen that settles in South Lawndale come June, the way old galvanized ductwork in New City holds debris that newer flex duct doesn’t. This isn’t territory on a map to us. It’s where we work, where we live, where we plan to stay. The brand is named for the oldest air-moving tool there is because we believe in the old craft way: clean air, done right, a square deal, no surprises on the bill. We’ll be there when we say.
